Dissolution is a collaborative multimedia performance that intertwines queer, trans, Indigenous, disabled, and nonhuman perspectives to reimagine interdependence and confront colonial narratives of memory.
My contribution focuses on the story of Juzgun, a resilient desert plant vital for restoring pastures, reclaiming deserts, and creating green belts in southwest Russia, particularly in Kalmykia, home to Europe’s first man-made desert. This work connects the plant’s story to the lasting effects of Russian colonial politics on the land and people of Kalmykia and the grassroots communities that have emerged around Juzgun.
