Alongside Gerel Sanjin, Gerel Erendzhenova, and Krista Dobr, I am a member of the MU Collective, a self-organized artists' community originating from Kalmykia.
In 2021, our collective took the initiative to organize a contemporary art exhibition in Elista, the capital city of Kalmykia. However, following the start of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, several members of the MU Collective, along with the wider community of artists from Kalmykia, were forced to flee Russia due to the tightening of dictatorship and resulting upheaval. Despite this challenging situation, our collective sustains collaborative efforts remotely, exploring the potential of digital solidarity in a community scattered over many countries. In our latest work, we embarked on a joint exploration of the non-Western notion of time in Oirad culture. This exploration took the form of a collective zine, which was presented as part of “Өмә” [Ome], a collaborative project by nGbk and Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien (Berlin).
